Working directly to the Chief of Staff, the Assistant Director, Communications is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Agency's media liaison and leads a team that is responsible for the Agency's publications, marketing and delivery of communication, stakeholder engagement and branding strategies, including overseeing website content and publishing, and social media management. Key accountabilities include: manage ARPANSA's Communications Strategy and develop corresponding targeted communication campaigns; manage ARPANSA's daily media engagement, including media monitoring and develop media responses, releases, interviews, events and strategies, including media engagement with internal stakeholders and partner agencies; manage and further develop ARPANSA's Stakeholder Engagement Strategy; develop, monitor and educate relevant ARPANSA staff in policies and procedures concerning interactions with the media, consistent delivery of ARPANSA's brand and other communications functions; oversee the Agency intranet and website content and production of the Agency's internal newsletter; and manage a small team of staff.


To be considered for this position, you will ideally have had experience in similar roles and specifically have demonstrated skills in media management, communication strategy development, and strategic stakeholder engagement. You will have excellent skills in media relations, developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns, and internal and external stakeholder engagement. You will be comfortable managing a small team and possess highly developed communication skills along with the ability to identify relevant emerging issues and respond in a positive and proactive manner.

You must hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency status leading to citizenship and be prepared to travel interstate from time to time as required. ARPANSA requires all new employees to undertake a baseline security clearance as a condition of engagement.
