There are two types of licences issued by ARPANSA:
- a source licence which is required by Commonwealth entities (“controlled persons”) who deal with controlled material or controlled apparatus
- a facility licence which is required by Commonwealth entities (“controlled persons”) who are engaged in certain conducts in relation to a nuclear installation or a prescribed radiation facility.
Unless an exemption applies, either a source licence or a facility licence must be obtained by the controlled person.
Who can apply for a licence?
The applicant must be:
- the Secretary, Chief Executive Officer, or an equivalent person, of the Department or Commonwealth Body (the applicant); or
- a person authorised by the applicant to lodge an application.
In the case of (b), the application must include a copy of the authorisation.
