The purpose of the NDRP is to provide an agreed framework for radiation safety, including both ionising and non-ionising radiation, together with clear regulatory statements to be adopted by the Commonwealth, states and territories. Replacing the first edition of the NDRP approved by the Australian Health Ministers’ Conference in July 2004 with subsequent amendments, NDRP2 represents a modernisation and streamlined approach for the Commonwealth, the States and Territories to work towards achieving the vision of a seamless regulatory framework for the safe generation and use of radiation across Australia.

Amendments to the NDRP will be considered and approved by the Health Council with the Environmental Health Standing Committee (enHealth) to oversee implementation of the NDRP.

NDRP2 received endorsement from all State and Territory Health Ministers between July and October 2021.
