ANSTO is in the process of constructing the SyMo facility which is intended to utilise SYNROC technology to immobilise waste from ANSTO’s Mo-99 production processes. The SyMo process results in the incorporation of waste into a consolidated wasteform inside a stainless steel container. The containers can be safely stored until a suitable facility for their disposal is available.
