General advice

  • OSL monitors are issued with clips at the commencement of the service. Please retain these clips for your next OSL monitor. Return OSL monitors at the end of each wearing period without the clip.
  • With each dispatch of personal radiation monitors a control monitor is supplied to measure natural background radiation and environmental effects. This is used in conjunction with the worker's monitor to determine the worker's occupational dose.
  • Uranium and mineral sands miners should discuss the need for extra control monitors when you apply.

How to clean your dosimeter

Follow these steps to safely clean and disinfect your personal dosimeter badge:

Cleaning

  • Use a clean, damp cloth with a mild detergent to wipe the badge
  • Dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth
  • Avoid letting any liquid get inside the badge's sensitive components.

Disinfection

  • Use a damp (not wet) disinfecting or sanitising wipe
  • Alternatively, lightly dampen a clean cloth with a non-abrasive disinfectant like alcohol, hand sanitiser, or a sanitising solution, and wipe the badge's exterior.

Important tips

  • Disinfecting can cause printed label information, such as the wearer’s name, to fade or become unreadable
  • To prevent this, disinfect gently and use only a damp cloth or wipe.

If the label fades:

  • Write the wearer’s name on the label using a permanent marker.
  • You can also cover the label with clear adhesive tape before cleaning to protect the printed information.
